Blink 182 Comeback - Pop Punk Band Blink 182 to Reform?
In September 2008, former Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker suffered second and third degree burns after being involved in a plane crash. Four people died in the crash, and Barker suffered burns to his torso and lower body.
Since the crash; former Blink 182 members Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge, and Travis Barker have all been in contact with one another, and it seems that they’re getting back to being friends. In a chat with MTV, Mark Hoppus had the following to say about his recent contact with DeLonge: “I talk to Tom several times a week, sometimes several times a day, and you know, he’s still the same Tom that I talked to on tour buses four years ago”.
It’s currently unsure as to whether or not Blink 182 will be reforming, but the band’s members are now on speaking terms with one another, and with Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker not having spoken with Tom DeLonge for four years prior to this; it’s certainly an encouraging sign that a friendship is being rekindled between the three of them.
Mark Hoppus had these two points to make, again whilst speaking with MTV; “One, I’m just glad we’re all friends again, and two, none of us know anything for sure beyond that”. So he’s forthcoming in stating that he’s not sure what the future holds for the three of them; a Blink 182 reunion certainly hasn’t been ruled out however, and if the three of them continue to talk well with one another then it would seem that there’s always the possibility that something could happen in the future.
It would be brilliant to see Blink 182 reform as a band; it’s certainly been a long time coming, and if the band does reform then there’ll surely be a lot of happy pop punk fans out there. Blink 182 was always a hugely popular band, and when the split happened in February 2005, a lot of the band’s fans were deeply saddened by the news of Blink 182’s ‘indefinite hiatus’.
A Blink 182 reunion is not certain, it could well happen however, and it’s a very encouraging sign that the three members are once more talking. If the band reforms then it would have to be with a truly mind-blowing tour though says Hoppus, stating to MTV “If — and this is a big if — Blink-182 were ever to re-form, it would have to be the most amazing, ridiculous, mind-blowing show and tour ever. I feel like, as bitter as our breakup was, we stepped back at the top of our game, and we’d have to come back even stronger and better than before”.
So it’s a big if that the band may reform, it’s good to know that the band’s members are getting on well together though, and that a reunion may well happen in the future. It’s not being ruled out at this stage, and the future may yet hold a reunion for Blink 182. The band was always changing and maturing when together, and if the three members of the band can once more find it in them to get creative and make music together, then Blink 182 may at some stage make a comeback.
