Metallica to Release an Online Album?

Published by richleigh at 11:54 pm under Album News, Rock Music Edit This

According to the NME , Metallica is thinking about releasing the next studio album online. The band is now free of its contract with Warner Bros after the release of the ‘Death Magnetic’ album earlier in 2008, and with this new found freedom; the idea of an online album release now seems to be something that the band is really considering.

The new album might not be out for a while yet, the band is free to do what it likes now though, and with digital music sales seemingly the future; this could be the route the band chooses to take with studio album number ten.

It wasn’t so long ago that the band filed a lawsuit against file sharing service Napster for distributing Metallica’s music online free of charge; things have changed a lot since then though, people have started paying for their music downloads, and even Napster is now a pay-to-use service.

It’s certainly an option that the band will release its next album online; it probably won’t be for a while though, so don’t get too excited just yet.
